A SERIOUS POSITION.
I PRODUCE HELD UP. I MEBCSANTS TAKE ACTION. i [EXTREME STEPS CONTEMPLATED. I WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Delegates from the National Dairy I Association waited upon the Chamber of j Commerce to-day, calling attention to the serious position due to the hold up of large quantities of New Zealand ; product by the shipping strike. Mr. J. T. Martin pointed out that the j banks and institutions would hesitate to advance further money on produce when it not being shipped. That a serious position has arissn was generally realisedThe following resolution was passed: — "That this chamber appreciates the action of the Government in its efforts to effect a settlement of tne seamen's strike, and. in the event of no settlement being reached, pledges its support to -whatever action the Government considers necessary to work idle steamers: that all parties interested in overseas shipping be immediately requested to nominate delegates, who shall attend at I =hori notice any meeting that may be ne'cessarr in the future."
