LIGHT, LARGE GOLF BALL.
3JJO ! SATS ST. ANDREWS. I ! ißeceived 10.30 a.m.i j ' * ' LONDON, September 30. j By an overwhelming majority, the ■ Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews ; rejected the proposal of its rules comj mittee that at the next British amateur I and open golf championship a bigger ! and lighter ball of American type should be compulsory. ■ The committee considered that the new : ball, by curtailing the length of the ' drive, would place a premium upon the ; quality of the stroke rather than the distance. Mr. John Greenwood, M.A.. LL.B., the famous sportsman, in the "Daily Ex- | press.'" expresses the opinion that a few plus men desire the change., but the struggling mass of long handicap men i find golf exasperating enough already. ! Out of 150 present at St. Andrews, i only a dozen voted for the proposal.— ; (A." and NZ. Cable.) |
