STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.
A COWSHED "WRECKED. DAMAGE ROUND DARGAVILLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The heavy gale experienced here on Saturday night and Sunday did a good deal of damage in some parts of the district. Turiwheri wharf shed was blown off the wharf, as was also the shed -at Bradley's Landing wharf. At Aratapu fences, trees and sheds were levelled to the ground, and iron was blown off the roofs of houses.' At Mangawhare a large tree fell across the road, smashing fences, tele--1 graph and telephone wires. In other parts of the district sheds, fences and trees were blown down. Mr. Jame3 ELidd and his sons, of Tatarariki, had a terrible experience on Sunday afternoon. They were busy milking with machines when lightning struck the milking shed. All the iron and beams in the shed broke and the building collapsed. One cow was seriously injured and two others were practically dehorned with flying iron. One son had a narrow escape from serious injury, a beam falling down within a few inches of where he was stripping. The others escaped without injury, but had a bad shock. Several toasts had been honoured when one of the company arose and proposed: "The finest whisky that ever came out of Scotland. Gentlemen: 'The Doctor.'"
