LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

QUEENSLAND V. SOUTH AUCKLAND AX EASY "WIN—S7 TO 24. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesday. The Queensland League football team played a South Auckland representative team on Hinemoa Park this afternoon, before a crowd of about 2500. The weather was quite good and a light westerly wind was blowing down the field. The first half was well worth going a long way to see. but the superior combination told in the second, and it was rather a procession from then on. The bright, snappy passing of the visitors took the crowd, as well as those short back passes, sent back in the certain knowledge that there would be a man waiting to carry on. Then a sudden change of tactics would take place and the baif would be seen flying right over the heads of a number to a man right out on the wing. There wns very little kicking the ballinto the opponents' hands, and giving them the chance to race away. The try scored by Spencer was a brilliant effort, and one rarply seen for the far wing man to come right across and pick up the ball from the other wing man. It was an example of what can be done when the brains are used, as well as brute strength. The visitors went South to-night by the Main Trunk. The teams:—

Queensland.—Frauenfelder. Aynsley. McBripn. Gorman. Spencer, Thompson. Council. Potter. Henderson. O'Meara. Leibke. l'arcells and Armbruster. South Auckland.—S. Raynor. Smith, Hemmingway, Johnson. Paki, Jackson. G. Raynor. Menzies, Allen, Hutt. Tiinms. Finlay. and Dufty. Queensland kicked off against a light westerly wind, the ball bouncing out in the local twenty-five. There tne visitors were penalised for not playing the ball, thus relieving the local men, and Dufty headed a rush, carrying the game to the other end. There the South Aucklanders had a penalty kick awarded them, but missed it. Then Armbruster secured, sending out to Aynslev. who reversed to the former, who threw forward, the penalty relieving the local line. Armbruster fielded the kick, and set Frauenfelder. Gorman and Leibse going, antl South Aucfclaisi had 'to force. Still the three were no , - to be denied, and came again, and Goiinan was earthed near tho line by Raynor. Johnson then nipped iv and made "a fine solo effort, but there was too much in his way. Here Mcßrieu retired hurt, and Crouch replaced. Play raced up and down the field, with the local men having rather the best of it. and the maroons had to touch down. The reds offended, but a good kick by Raynor jusc failed to reach the posts. Menzies. Dufty and Hemmingway came through at a great pace, tout Crouch fcto-pped 'them for a time, then Johnston saw an opening and raced through, and scored under the posts. S. Raynor added the major points. South Auckland 5, Queensland 0. Starting again, the ball went out, anil from a scrum the reds fumbled. Hutt intercepted, sent to Allen, who short kicked, and Jackson, picking up, beat the full-back, and scored on the corner, Raynor kicking a great goal. South Auckland 10, Queensland 0. Then Queensland started. Connell secured from a scrum and sent to Spencer, to Gorman, who reversed to Spencer, the latter scoring, Aynsley failing with the kick. Queensland 3, South Auckland 10. On setting the leather in motion again. Potter soon secured and set the whole team in motion, and only Gorman knocking on saved the locals. Hemmingway followed up the kick quickly and turned the trend of the game. Gorman cut in, in-passed to Aynsley. to Thompson, who planted the ball right under the posts, and Aynsley raised the flags this time. Queensland S, South Auckland 10. Then followed a spell of great throwing about by the visitors, and only deadly tackling held them up, but gradually they worked down towards their opponents goal, Potter and Gorman being outstanding. Parcells nipped in and scored another try. Queensland 11, South Auckland 10. The home team made strong efforts to score again, but the visiting full-back saved by a great kick. A red offending, Raynor made no mistake with his kick. South Auckland 12, Queensland 11. This was followed directly by another penalty being awarded against the reds, which Raynor from halfway just missed. Armbruster picked from the loose aud it went through three hands to Crouch, who. side-stepping Kaynor, scored. Aynsley converted. Queensland IC, South Auckland 12. On resuming G. Raynor picked up and made a fine run. but unfortunately he was not supported, and the reds sent the ball back to the other end, only to lose their chance by offside play, giving Raynor another chance, which he turned to account. South Auckland 14, Queensland 16. Freddy Johnston was next responsible for a good wriggle through the Queenslanders, and this movement caused the Tisitors some concern, and to clear they had to touch down. This gave the fast men a chance to alter the run, aud Armbruster taking the leather from Connell. Parcells and Leibke scored. Queensland 19, South Auckland 14. Just before half-time .Leibke bullocked his way through the opposition and scored, adding another three points only.

Queensland South Auckland " Early in the second half the local men looked like scoring. But Connell cut in, and set Armbruster, Thompson, Gorman. Play now went to the visitors' half for a time, with the full-back relieving with a good kick. Aynsley added the points this time Queensland 27, South Auckland 14. Play became a little ragged for a time, with the local men easing up. Jackson, Miki and Menzies raised the local hopes by a fine passing rush, only to be stopped near the goal. and losing possession. The visitors worked down the line again, and Spencer dodged over on the corner, no goal resulting. Queensland 30, South Auckland 14. Aynsley got the next try as the result of a pretty bit of side-step-ping, dodging a number of Waikato players and putting the ball down right under the posts. Queensland 33, South Auckland 14. The local men woke for a time now and put some snap in their work. As a result Hemmingway intercepted a red rush, outraced the fast opposition, and scored with G Raynor goaling. South Auckland 10, Queensland 33. Two tries were scored by the Queenslanders in quick succession, and mainly because they -were in their right places when wanted. Armbruster petting one and Gorman the other. Crouch and Aj-nsley raising the flags for both of the tries. Queensland 43, South Auckland 19. Crouch brilliantly took a long pass from across the field. and all the defenders being out of place the visitor scored again. Potter jrot another which Henderson poaled Then Aj-nsley made a great run down the whole length of the playing area, adding a try. Dufty made a gallant attempt to rush through an opening, but the full-hack got in his way and down came Dufty. and the red backs rame along for their last try which Armbruster got. With three minutes to go Hemmingway got hold of the ball, raced along, then sent to Daries, who nipped through the centre of play and passed on to Dufty. and on to Huk who ran behind and scored, and with G.
