One fatepAyerinformed the council last night that since the road had been remade and the footpath raised where he lives; hig property is no# in a gully and had, therefbre> depreciated in value £400. H_ concluded by asking the council "What about it?" Another ratepayer told the council that his property had been greatly damaged by the higher footpath, and he, too, asked what the Council proposed to do in the inattef. A third declared that the water from the new footpath "overflowed into his yard and flooded his sections. An ihunediate remedy Was demanded. A lady ratepayer told the council that she estimated the damage to her five sections through these street improvements at £20 each, "That -ambuhts to' £100," continued the writer, but as she did not wish to be hard on the council she was willing to compromise for £75 to settle the matter immediately. All these demands for compensation were referred to the Streets Committee tdreport.
