ENGLAND'S FOOD SUPPLIES.
POSITION OF DOMINIONS. SYDNEY, September 10. The delegates to the Empire Press Union's conference were to-day tendered a luncheon by the Sydney Chamber of Commerce. The president (Mr. Dunlop), in proposing the toast of the visitors, referred to the question of State Governors. He said that although a number of State Governments desired to have Australianborn Governors appointed that was not the wish of Australia. It would break a most beneficial link with the headquarters of the Empire. Sir .Edward M. Iliffe, M.P., in responding, said he thought the people of Britain were not yet sufficiently educated to allow the Dominions' food to enter free of duty while foreign foods were taxed. He thought that the tax on foreign foods should be used as a. sort of bounty for the products of the Dominions.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
