U.S. AIR DISASTERS.
UNPLEASANT ALLEGATIONS. REPLY BY HEAD OF NAVY. WASHINGTON, September 10. The Secretary to the Navy (Mr. Curtis Wilbur) formally denies that the Shenanaoah disaster was caused by a reduction of the helium escape valves, as was alleged by the German expert, Anton Heinen. Mr. Wilbur also denies that political motives inspired the flight, or that Commander Lansdowne protested against it,. as his widow had asserted. I The time chosen for the Hawaiian flight, said Mr. Wilbur, was most propitious. The lost aeroplane, PN9, No. 1, was in the best condition possible. No man would have been forced to make either flight if he had been unwilr ling to do so.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) 1 i
