CLAIM FOR DAMAGE.
SHIPPING COMPANY SUED. JUDGE AWARDS £479. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the Supreme Court Inglis Bros, of > Wellington, claimed £479 from the ' master and owners of the steamer Port Stephens. Plaintiffs had some trucks ■ 'on board, and while they were being '• tmloaded at Auckland in October a hook ; <brokfc and one case fell on to the i wharf. The value of the truck was i £020, and the fall so damaged it that its value was reduced to £150. Defendants pleaded that they were not liable under the bill of lading for > more than £200, but plaintiffs contended ) j that a faulty hook came under the r ; heading of "unseaworthiness" and over* s rode the bill of lading. Judge Mac--3 i Gregor supported this view and awarded 5 j the full amount claimed.
