SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.
AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL COURT REPORT TO THE EXECUTIVE. At this afternoon's executive meeting of the Auckland Provincial Court of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, the secretary reported that during the past three weeks active propaganda work had been carried out. Communications had .been forwarded to chambers of commerce, county councils, and local •bodies throughout the province, pointing out that urgent and generous responses are necessary to enable the executive to carry out the work in a manner befitting the chief province of the Dominion. As a result it w-as reported that the local .bodies concerned are displaying more interest in the undertaking, and there was every likelihood of a substantial increase in the funds. Total contributions promised to date amounted to £2878, boroughs being responsible for £1603, counties £825, harbour boards £350, and one firm in Auckland £100. Of the total amount promised the sum of £781 had already been paid. Following are details of the court and cost of same:—Space (5000 square feet) £1000, erection of court and fittings £2500, transportation £500, publicity £1000, management £1000, contingencies £500, making a total of £6500. As a result of negotiations, the price of the space has been reduced to £793 15/6. For printing a descriptive book for free distribution, £1000 has been allowed. An estimate of the cost of 50,000 copies amounted to £1250, and it was thought that a return of at least £500 could be secured for advertising. Substantial support has been promised from the Bay of Plenty, the Tauranga Borough Council already having voted the sum of £25 towards the court.
