AKARANA RIFLE CLUB.
« The twenty-eighth annual meeting of the ■ Akaruna Defence Rifle Club was held at the Drill Hall, Rutland Strept. Mr. S. Elliott presided over v good gathering of members, a pleasing feature being the number of prospective intending new members who were present. The balance-sheet was presented, showing an improvement, and was the subject of favourable comment. The report stated that Mr. E. J. C. Reston had won the club championship, bis score being 674. Mr. W. Powell was the runnerup. with 672. Mr. A. W. Powell won the B Section, with 657, whilst Lieut, (i. D. Moon won the C Section, his score being 005. In the best average competition .Mr. K. J. C. Reston wns successful, with an average of 4.L'.j per shot. President S. Elliott and Mr. \V. Powell were very close up with 4.24 and 4.1S respectively. Mr. J. R. Draffin won the service championship, the runner-up being Mr. K. G. White. Fifteen trophies were competed for during the season. Messrs. V\\ Powell and T. Elliott, jun., winning two each, whilst the following were successful in winning one each : Messrs. A. E. Hughes. S. Elliott, E. .T. C. Reston, E. G. 'White. F. J Wakefield, A. W. Powell, C. C. Tnelly, E. H. Stnrkev. C. Marctt, A. Starkey, and A. J. Mace. Seventy-one silver spoons jvere won by 27 of the members. To foster rifle shooting among the younger generation, the club during the past season gave free entrance To ten jnniors. and it was very gratifying to the older members to see tho keenness displayed by the juniors in the way they came out each week. Cadets C. Marett and A. J. Mace won two of the monthly trophies, whilst H. Willoughby and F. C. Beazley won two spoons each, C. Itowe being successful in winning one, these results for their first season' 9 shooting being exceptionally satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr. S. A. S. W\ Strong : hon. secretary nnd treasurer, Mr. A. B. Hughes ; hon. auditor. Mr. A. G. Maughan. F.R.A. The club will open their ] 025-102G season on September 19, with a practice ; September 20. teams' matches.; October 3, championship series commence.
