PEESCOTT SETTLEMENT BLOCKS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Mr. Jordan (Manukau) asked the Minister of Lands in the House of Representatives to-day whether he would state when the Carroll, Cadman, Lawry and Prescott estates in the Ellerslie district, would be available for settlement, what tenures they would be settled under, and what means would be .used to secure settlement. The Minister of Lands replied: "Carroll'Settlement: A contract for the formation of the roads has been .let, and the sections will be available upon completion of the contract. The contract is expected-to be completed about the end-of -September, and the sections can then- ;be 'advertised. Cadman Settlement: Further roadworks are necessary before-the , land is offered. The Public Works Department expects to let a further contract shortly, and some-of the sections- should be available about the end- of the year. The sections on these settlements will probably be. auction either for cash or on deferred payment after being duly advertised. Lawry Settlement: As portion .of tliis settlement is low-lying and subject to flooding it is not intended to .offer same in the meantime. It is proposed' to call for tenders for the removal of. stone and the improvement of the sections before placing same on the market. Prescott Settlement: Eighteen sections fronting the main road opposite Penv r6se railway station were offered for sale in June. 1-923, and were not all selected. There appears to be little demand for these sections,' and as the roading, owing to the rocky formation, is expensive, it is not proposed to deal with sections on this settlement in the meantime."
