AUSTRALIAN SEAMEN.
NOT HAPPY YET,
MAHENO SHORT-HANDED.
SYDNEY, August 14.
The first trouble over the new agreement between the shipowners and the Seamen's Union occurred to-day.
The Maheno, which was due to sail for Auckland at 4 p.m., had to pay off two members of the crew owing to their sickness. When the Union' Company tried to replace these men there was no response. The seamen claimed that, as''the vessel is on the New Zealand articles, the Seamen's Union is entitled to refuse to supply men after the ordinary picking-up hours. The vessel left the wharf and anchored in the harbour. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.) MAHENO TO SAIL. (Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. Trouble arose on the Maheno owing to the men refusing to accept an engagement unless paid Australian rates and guaranteed a month's wages. It is understood that the company acceded to the men's request, but it was then after picking up hours. It is expected that the vessel will sail in the morning.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
