A pathetic story, quite true, is recalled in Sydney in connection with the visit" of Admiral Sperry and the American Fleet to that port*in 1908.- A little mite, who waved a tiny flag from the cliffs at Soutb- Head as the fleet proudly entered Port Jackson, taking for excuse the fact that his birthday fell on the same day as her own, wrote to the Admiral asking him in - quaint baby talk if he had noticed her little flag as he came through the Heads. In a charming letter the Admiral replied that he had of course noticed her flag —that it stood right out among all the other flags and he said how sorry he would have been, if by any chance that one flag of all others had not waved him a welcome. Later on the Admiral wrote to the little mite telling her how the fleet had arrived at Manila, and how he had missed her little flag among the many flown. Shortly after the receipt of the last letter the little flag-bearer died, and her parents wrote to Admiral Sperry informing him of the fading away of his "little Australian flower." A special train leaves Auckland at 5.30 p.m. to-morrow for Hamilton. Passengers holding ordinary tickets for Mercer, Pukekohe and Frankton may travel by this train. A scheme to establish a central septic tank at Papatoetoc is projected by the local town board. The difficulty met with in connection with a sanftary service in the district lias been the source of much annoyance to the board for a number of years; and, although a curtailed service was recently inaugurated, it is considered that a centrally situated depot is preferable to the present system, which requires carting outside the district. The scheme does not involve a drainage system; but concerns only the disposal of refuse along the lines "of a similar system in operation at Otahuhu.
