HEAVY BLOW AT PAEROA.
. ■ t DELUGE OF BAIN. LOW AREAS INUNDATED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. Late yesterday afternoon an easterly gale nrose, and increased to almost hurricane force as night approached, J accompanied by torrential rain, which continued all night. This morning all •low-lying areas in the borough were inundated by storm water. Telephone communication between Paeroa and Waihi is disorganised, telegraph poles having come clown near Karangahake.. Telegraph wires between Paeroa and Thames are in contact. Ohinemuri river has risen three feet this morning, and was still rising at mid-day. A serious flood is not anticipated. Although the storm still prevails, indications are better for a finer afternoon. Minor damage was done, some windows being blown in, and plantations suffered. The railway services between Paeroa, Waihi, and Thames are all maintained.
