INDUSTRY IN GERMANY.
CTJIX STEAM AHEAD. ; . j DEPRESSING HANDICAPS. (lioeeivod - 2 p.m.) LONDON. August 12. The Berlin correspondent of the "Morning Post" says to-day ended the Government's long, weary fight <to carry the new tariff under which Industry gets increased protection, while the landowners secured a reimposition of the food duties, which were suspended at the-outbreak of war. All Capitalist parties are immensely gratified. Industry can now settle down to develop the aggressive export trade necessitated by the Dawes plan, while agriculture can carry out its plans for increasing the local production of foodstuffs. Politically the tariff is bound to lead to popular opposition of the Government by the Socialists and Democrats representing the wage, earners, owing to the probable increases in the cost of livin" (A. and N.Z.
