GOVERNMENT DEFEATED. VANCOUVER, August 11. A message from ?t. John, New Brunswick, says that the Premier (Mr. ; p. J. Veniot) and his Liberal Government were overwhelmed in the Provincial general elections to-day. The Conservatives, led by Mr. J. B. M. : Baxter, gained control of the Legis- : lature. The final results show that of the 4S : scats in the Legislative Assembly, the Conservative Opposition candidates < secured 36, and the Oovernmcnt candi- i dates the remaining 12.— (Reuter.)
