THE GREAT LOUIS WAIN.
A PATTPER AND INSANE. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 11. An appeal has been inaugurated to raise £1000 for the famous cat artist, Louis Wain, who commenced to draw in ISSG, and has drawn 150,000 cats. Despite his past prosperity, he sold his copyright pictures, and ie now a pauper in a lunatic asylum and N.Z. Cable.) Louis William Wain is the remarkable genius whose wonderful cats are known throughout the world. It is only when one is familiar with his work that one appreciates the diversity of feline expression. He was a newspaper artist for many years. It was because of his love of animais that he drew them. During his prosperity he was connected with many societies that exist for the protection of animals. He was a passionate anti-vivisectionist. The great artist was originally intended to follow a musical career, and, indeed, has been a remarkably fine musician. His mother was •French. Mr. Wain is Go years of age.
