RECEPTION TO AMERICAN VISITORS.

BRILLIANT FUNCTION.

A reception was given by the American Consul, Mr. Walter F. 'Boyle/ and Mrs. Boyle, last evening to tlie Admiral and officers of the visiting fleet in the Town Hall. The hall had been specially decorated with a charming display of pale green and coloured lights for the occasion, and the staircase, upon which was draped the flag-' of the guests of the evening, was trellised, forming a roof-of green lycopodium fern, and brilliant with mauve coloured fairy lights. Huge baskets of delicate ferns were suspended from the roof and streamers of lycopodium were draped in graceful loops from them to the gallery, which was outlined with streamers of the same kind, while baskets of fern hung under the galleries and streamers were draped from each supporting pillar. The stage also was massed with tall flax and bamboo and lit with a moonlight effect that was; very effective. During the evening inspiriting music was supplied by -the orchestra from the Admiral's flagship, and at the conclusion a buffet supper was served in the supper room. The guests were received at the entrance by Mr. Boyle, assisted by Mrs. Boyle, who was in a charming gown of orchid charmeuse with deep trimming of ostrich feather, and georgette embroidered, wrap in a darker shade with a deep fringe. With this she wore a corsage bouquet of white camellias. Miss Boyle, who also assisted, was in pale blue silver embroidered georgette, with Shetland lace shawl.
