SOCIAL JOTTINGS

Mr. Kirby Wilson is staying at Hotel Mon Desir, Takapuna, for some months. Miss McCash, Scotland, is staying at Hotel Mon Desir, Takapuna. Miss Slane is staying at Beach House, }lilford. Evans, of Curran Street, Heme Bay, in aid of the Plunket Society, when the very satisfactory amount of seven pounds odd was collected for the fund. Miss Margery Bush gave a "Wanted on the Voyage" tea on Saturday morning in the Tudor Tea Rooms for Miss Rona Smeeton, who is leaving on Saturday next for a trip to England and the Continent. Those present were: Mrs. Alan Wilson, the Misses Doris, Enid and Bob->> liic Able, Penman, Kemp, Lamb, Conway and the Misses Merle and Rona Smeeton. A meeting of the Auckland district W omen's Christian Temperance Union, was held in Mrs. Lee Cowie's hall, East .Street, at which Mrs. Benfell presided. Business was arranged for the annual convention which takes place September 23, at Devonport. Arrangements were also made for entertaining the boys of the American Fleet. Mrs. Lee Cowie's hall being thrown open to them. Remits from the National Council of Women were discussed and passed, other business was transacted. The numbers, of the National Reserve Nursing Division, which is a very.progressive section of the St. John Ambulance, have been holding a series of soeiula to obtain funds to assist in sending several squads, who are entering for competition, to Dunedin during the Exhibition. The last social was organised by Miss V. Nathan, and held in the Domain Kiosk on Thursday. The programme arranged by Mr. Alan McEl.wain was thoroughly enjoyed, and after supper dancing was indulged in. The sewing guild of this division are also very active, meeting every Wednesday, when new clothes are made and old clothes remodelled for distribution by the district nurses and for the Richmond Road children's home. An enjoyable dance was held in the St. Sepulchre's Hall on Saturday, August S. by the Seddon Memorial Technical College Past Students' Association. About 170 members and friends were present. The music was provided by the Seddon orchestra. The wedding was quietly solemnised at St. Peter's Church, Takapuna, on Thursday of last week, of Miss Emma Mabel Bass, seventh daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bass, of Croxton Kerrial, Grantham, England,- to Leslie William Eainger, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Rainger, of Prince's Street, Auckland. The bride, who was-given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. F. Hawes, wore pale blue georgette with a blue and silver hat and carried a pink bouquet. She was attended as matron-of-honour by Mrs. 11 awes, wearing a pale blue georgette frock with beaded trimmings. ROTORTJA NOTES.
