BIRKENHEAD BAND.

The complimentary concert held in the Foresters' Hall, tendered by the Birkenhead Band to the people of Birkenhead, was most successful. The selections by the band, -which were well rendered, included the contest piece for which the band recently secured third prize. Various instrumental items by bandsmen were augmented by songs, quartets, and recitations by local and city artists who assisted. The Mayor, Mr. B. G. Skeates, as patron, welcomed those present, and stated that the band had now stepped Into a fresh era of its existence, being equipped with a new set of Boosey silver Instruments at a cost of £680. About £350 of this had been paid, and but for the health restrictions as the result of the Infantile paralysis epidemic the balance would have been paid off by now. The position, however was that approximately £330 was still owing, and donations towards liquidating this liability would be acceptable. The band's annual concert, to be held' next month, would afford an- opportunity to assist this objective.
