WELLINGTON ROAD ROLLER.
ORDER GOES TO AMERICA.
(Sy Te!egra»h.-Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
A controversy has been raging for some time over the City Council's proposal to procure a heavy roller for paving work from America. The municipal engineers reported that an English article was deficient in several respects and was inclined to corrugate the pavement. In consequence of opposition on patriotic grounds the matter was held in suspense while the British tenderers cabled Home asking for alterations in the machines. Thi* the manufacturers have declined to agree- to, refusing to depart from their own standards, and, as they refuse to make any alteration the order goes to America.
