COMMERCIAL BANK OF AUSTRALIA.

The Commercial Bank of Australia has issued a very satisfactory balance-sheet ror the year ended June 30, 1925. The net profit amounts to £305,530, which shows an increase or £30,535, as compared with the previous year. The sum . broug-bt forward Is £04,953, makingavailable £370,489. Out or this £101,1i'4 ; has been transferred to the reserve fund, £10,000 has been written off bank premises, £5000 is added to the officers' guarantee and provident rund, the divi- : dend at the rate of 4 per cent per annum jon preference shares absorbs £64,694, and i 15 per cent on the ordinary shares absorbs £87,107, leaving- £82,570 to be carried forward. In addition to the £101,124 transferred to the reserve fiina out of proilts, £233,876, being premium received lon the new issue of shares, has been ] credited to that account, thus Increasing I the reserve fund to £685,000. Last year ; the capital of the batik was increased from : £2,626,929 to £2,860,605 by the issue or I 457,394 ordinary shares of 10/ each at i a premium of 10/ each.

At last meeting or the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association a letter was received from the A.Z. Fruitgrowers' Association pointing out that though the rate on New I Zealand fruit was unaltered, it was only so in respect of consignments under 2241b; above that quantity rate and a-half would bd charged. The rate per ton per 100 miles would De 2 3/3; ana on the basis of 44 cases to the ton tftis meant Just under Oα per cese. It was intended to make representation? en the matter. Friiit was carried at a lower rate than other primary products: Ver 100 mile per ton: Butter and cheese, 37/1; meat, €!/; and rrult, 23/3. For the twelve months ending , June, 1925, 44353 mortgages, representing £42,188.458; were registered, and 34,453, representing- £32,616,144, were discharged. The figures ror tne previous 12 months were: Registered 41,140 (£40,092,062), discharged 29,482 (£24,-405;643).
