RURAL HAWKE'S BAY.

A FAVOURABLE OUTLOOK. Some interesting observations on the present outlook in rural industry in Hawke's Bay were made to a "Dominion" reporter yesterday. Ly the member for Waipawa (Sir George Hunter). "The weather in Hawke's Bay last week," he said, "was very mild and fine, and farmers generally, were able to get on with seasonable work. Lambing has started in favourable climatic conditions. The bad -weather, towards the end of JulVj affecied stock adversely to some extent, but the effect of the last week of fine weather has been excellent, and there are good prospects of an early spring. "There is still a good demand for both fat sheep and fat cattle, but buyers are not operating at the present to any great extent. It is expected that towards the end of this month there will be an active demand from Auckland for fat cattle. "The rivers have subsided and the roads are already in much better order than they were after the recent floods. Local bodies have been active in effecting repairs. Pastures show every prospect of an early and good growth. . "Work is plentiful throughout Hawke's Bay, and fewer men are travelling the roads thi9 winter than I remember for a good many years past.. Operations in connection with the electric power schemes, is absorbing a large amount of the available labour. .Wherever power schemes have beeii carried out, settlers speak in high terms of' appreciation of the great advantages thus, brought -within reach- Apart from its., use In shearing ana milking .sheds, electric power is being used very freefy for domestic purposes in the country homes. "A considerable area -.ef land in Hawke's Bay has been sown this season with oats, and the crops are looking very well indeed."
