HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
• PORTABLE SUB-STATIOX. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AROHA, Tuesday. An.electric truck has been purchased by the Thames Valley Power Board for the purpose of dealing speedily and economically with transformer troubles, to be used as a portable sub-station. The truck win carry its own charging plants for use should any transformer in the system break down. In addition to overhauling trahsfurmefii, the sub-station will be used for treating the oil in transformers. In order that the truck can work in any part of the district, an attachment will enable it to be coupled on the overhead lines to a portable transformer at high pressure* namely, 11,000 volts. Provision is made for accommodating two men, bunks and a certain amoufat of cooking apparatus being provided. The men may camp anywhere and lack for little, provided they are near an electric line. Until the truck arrived it was necessary, in order to do the work it can accomplish, to bring the transformer into the workshop at Te Aroha.
