■ I FRENCH EFFORT TO CONTROL. | (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) j CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. ■ The question of whether New Zealand would be prepared to support Great Britain in a proposal to sever connection j with the International Swimming Fed-: eration was considered by the New Zea- j land Amateur Swimming Association this evening. A letter was read from the British Association, in which it was stated that France was endeavouring to secure complete control of the federation for the Continental nations, and had so far succeeded as to exclude Great Britain or any of the British Dominions from representation on the bureau or govern- j ing body of the federation. Upon the ; federation arriving at this? decision, the j British representative had withdrawn j and had recommended to the Britishj Association that it shoull cease to be a j member. The British Association stated I that it was writing to the Dominion j associations to. ascertain what support it might expect from them in the event of it deciding to withdraw. It was suggested if withdrawal took place that an i effort should be made to establish an! English-speaking alliance, including i America. Decision on the matter was deferred till next meeting of the council, in order to give the centres an opportunity of considering the position, it being pointed out that the action contemplated would mean exclusion from the Olympic Games.
