TAKAPUNA MUNICIPAL BAND.

NEEDS OF THE MEMBERS. INSTRUMENTS AND UNIFORMS. Matters concerning the Takapuna Municipal Band were discussed at a meeting of the Takapuna Council last evening, when members of the band waited upon the council. As leader of the deputation, Mr. E. G. Tucker pointed out that the band was a municipal one and under the wing of the council. He mentioned that it had started operations with low-class instruments, and had, in spite of that handicap, made excellent progress. The purchase ef superior instruments was now wanted. The sum of £250 was necessary to put the band on a proper footing. I Mr. Tucker also stated that uniforms for the bandsmen were now necessary. ' It was a psychological fact that a band rendered better music when its members were in uniform. The sum of £125 would be necessary for the purpose. The council, he said, had an asset in its band, whose members were worthy of encouragement. The need for the establishment of a practice room was t also stated. Mr. F. E. N. Gaudin thought that the matter should be fully considered by the finance and legal committee. The council was desirous of doing all in its power to assist the band. The borough finances, however, he said, would not stand the expenditure suggested. After further discussion the matter was referred to the legal and finance committee for consideration.
