The V prevention of infantile .tuberculosis-, which is responsible for so large a percentage of the death rate,, was claimed for a new form of vaccination discovered by the Pasteur Institute of Paris. Dr. Albert Calmette, who read a paper to the Academy of Medicine, stated that the vaccine known as BCG was a living culture taken from cows, and was administered in small doses in the baby's milk before it is 10 days' old. Of 168 babies taken from the homes of the poorer classes and vaccinated in the spring of 1922, not one has contracted tne disease. During the past year more than 2000 new-born infants were vaccinated without any illeffects: The normal percentage of deaths from tuberculosis was 32.6 in the first year.
