FATHER SHOT DEAD.

. SYDNEY, July 24.

Following an argument between a young carpenter and his father, the father was shot dead, while the mother, powerless to interfere, saw the whole tragedy.. The son has been arrested and charged with murder. The tragedy occurred last Saturday evening at Albury, on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. Daniel Henry James Murray, aged 48, a labourer who had been living in Sydney, was the victim. The shooting took place at the. home of Mrs. Murray, who lived with her son Henry William aged 25, who is, charged with the murder, at Buckingham Street, .North.. Albury.

Murray senior had reached Albury from Sydney on the Saturday morning, with his aged father," who had been to the city' for medioal purposes. -,-. Apparently, Daniel Henry Murray vintended. to make arrangements' for the care of his father, and he had arranged to return to. Sydney that night. Murray and his father went in,the morning to the home of Mrs. Maher, the former's sister, and at about 4 : p.m. Murray, for the first time, roefe.his son in David Street North.? For over eight years Murray had been -living in Sydney apart from his wife and family hut the father and son had met on ap-parently-friendly terms. Together they visited several hotels during the afternoon, and also- witriessed a local football match, subsequently reaching Mrs. Maher's home, near the Albury cemetery, between 'five and six p.m.

The police statfc.that Murray was preparing to have tea with his.sister, when the son, Henry William Murray, returned' from his home nearby, and an argument arose over family matters.' Eventually the son.left for his toother's home. The father" followed. Mrs. Murray was in the garden when the father and son arrived. Then the argument was resumed. Henry William Murray went to the ' outhouse and apparently got a single-barrelled shot-gun. His father was unarmed, and as he approached his -son, the latter, ie. stated to have called out. . Almost immediately ..the gun was fired and the father fell shot through the neck. He died before the police and doctor arrived. Henry William Murray was then arrested and charged with the murder of his father.

Young Murray is a single man, and when, his mother was left With' her family, he was tbe mainstay of the home.
