(Received- _ p„in.i BERLIN. July 31. The last, of the French troons - have departed from Essen.—(A. .and N.Z.) Essen is the great' town in Rhenish Prussia, where' the enormous Krupp works are situated and "Which therefore has been so securely held by tlie Allies since the defeat of tlie German navy and army. It was founded in 873. but its development as" an industrial centre is' comparatively recent. It is only 22 miles from Dusseldorf. The population is about 2,>0,000. The public services are remarkably good, and its civic administration highly efficient.
