EXPLORING THE ARCTIC.
ELLSWORTH'S INTENTIONS. FURTHER POLAR FLIGHTS. OTTAWA, July 31. Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth, the American explorer who was partner with Captain Raold Amundsen on the recent' Arctic flight,. and whose father paid a large part of tlie. expenses, has arrived at Halir fax from Oslo, Norway, en route to New York. In tlie course of'an interview,-Mr. Ellsworth said lie was convinced that Captain Amundsen would continue Mb Arctic exploration. .An ' airship was needed to make the flight to tlie North Pole. It must 'be a machine capable of carrying out a sustained flight. The present types .of aeroplanes were not practical for the attempt. Mr. Ellsworth said lie hoped to go north again. He would rather he-going there than to New York.— (Renter.) MACMILLAN EXPEDITION. SHIPS FROZEN IN. (Received 11 ii.m.i WASHINGTON. July 31. A wireless message lias been received from Captain.. Maemillan (leader of the expedition) that his ships, llowdoiu and Peary, are locked in tlie ice pack in Melville Bay in sight cif Cape York skyline.
