To-day's proceedings of the Dominion Lebour Conference was opened by Mr. Purcell, M.P.. who declared that tlie majority of trade unionists were optimistic concerning the industrial position. He viewed with extreme satisfaction tho present development, and considered it a good thing the.conference was meeting at this time. ~ ... They were on .the thre.sli.old of one. of tlie biggest victories of trade unionism in the past 25 years. Referring to the development of industrialism in the Empire, Mr. Purcell declared that British people at Home employed antiquated machinery and sent the modern machinery to the Dominions. He described the Empire as a huge slave plantation of the British capitalistic class which was stifling with fat and fading to function.—(Reuter.)
