SCOTS LAWSUIT.

BANK OF ENGLAND CASE. BEVE3SAL OF JUDGMENT. LONDON. July 15. The First Division Court at Edinhurgh has reversed Lord Ashmore's decision in i favour of the Bank of England in the case relating to the late Mr. John Wilson's transferred bonds. The case raised the question of the gtiilt or otherwise of David Anderson. , The Lord President said that Mr. Wilson for two years had not signed papers. The signature on those concerned was in a feigned hand.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) The executors of John Wilson, who had been an M.P. for Edinburgh, claimed £60.000 from the Bank of England. Plaintiff's case relied on the fact that the hank accepted transfers of stocks and bonds, the property of Wilson, which, it was :ille<?i;d, had lieen ■ forged by David Anderson. The bank • pleaded that Wil=on'3 acceptance of the diminished yield from the shares ratified ! the transfers. Wilson's eyesight failed • in 1920, and Anderson was employed to . read to him. Anderson was guilty of ■ -forgeries, which were discovered after j Wilson's death in 1922. Lord Ashmore. in his juds-ment. held that there had been no forgery by Anderson, who had Wilson's authority to sisra the transfers. He said that Wilson had systematically made false income tax and super-tax returns for years. He had returned his income at '£5000 instead of £20.000. Anderson's e~pen?ive mode of living, his heavy bettinsr. and his pnrrha3es of motor cars. Had supported the suspicions ' of the trustees that he had misappropriated Wilson's money, and it hnd not been proved that Anderson had accounted for bonds and stocks he had realised for Wilson. Lord Ashmore's , decision was said to prove that Anderson was not guilty of the charge.
