FALSE PRETENSES. A young Maori named Peter Paewai appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court to-day when tie pleadpd guilty to stealing f3, the property of Ratan Singh, ,1 Hindu. He also pleaded guilty to seven charges of obtaining a total" of 12 14/ in sm a " amounts from John Bryant by falsely representing that he. had £7525 in the Bank of Xew Zealand, and that he was a brother of Paewai. the All Black footballer, and a cousin of Xepia. the famoUJ All Black custodian. Chiei Detective dimming*, in handing up accused's list to fho niaj;i»trati', remarked that accused had been before the. Court fnr too often, and that he had been treated too leniently in the pa.-t.
