FUGITIVE IN THE BUSH.
ARRESTED AFTER A YEAR. (Bj>,Telegrapii.—Own Correspondent.) STRATFORD, this day. A warrant alleging that he had obtained credit by fraud at W'anganui was issued about a year ago against a man named Phillip Deacon Leonard Scown, but from then until Friday he was seen only once by the police. Tiiat was at Kakaramea last July, when the local constable saw him, but, he bolted into the bush. From then he has worked in the heart of the bush away in the Tannaki hinterland behind Amoana, thirty miles from Elthara. He was known by the name of Bain, and had only once left, there, when he walked to Xormanby and back again. On Friday night he was arrested by Constable" Townsend, when he had a long beard and hair growing over hia shoulder?. He was brought before justices and remanded to appear at YVanganui.
