INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE.
A DIPLOMA SUGGESTED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of tlic Auckland jranch of the New Zealand Institute of horticulture was held yesterday afterioon. Mr.j David Hay presiding in the ibscnce, owing to business reasons, of Mr. H. (ioldie. The report of the executive committee ihowed that the membership up till March 31 Inst was over sixty. The Senate of the University of New Zealand had appointed Professor J. (.'. as its representative on he Dominion Council, while the New Zealand Institute had appointed Mr. B. .'. Aston to act on its behalf. The education committee had prepared egulations for a New Zealand diploma n horticulture, and it had been suggested hat the diploma he grunted by the instiute. A copy of the suggested regulaions had been forwarded to the Duinilion secretary. Kegret was expressed that the suggesion of a botanical garden had not been supported by the City Council. It was uippd that the matter would be brought ip for further consideration. The editorial committee, under the eadership of Mr. Archcy. had produced Jie first bulletin for the Dominion, while he matter for the second was well in land. The first bulletin was ft publication of sixteen pages, and included a jeneral article by Dr. L. Cocvayne, presilent of the Institute, descriptive writngs, and an account of the second annual jonfereuce. The finances of the institute were in a satisfactory condition, the balance sheet showing a'credit balance of £.">. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Prof. .1. f. Spcrrinlohnsnn; chairman of executive. Mr. If. fJoldie: vice-chairmen. A. (I. Lunn and W. S. Hill. The old committee, with the exception of Mr. W. J. Wen)ham, who is no longer available, was re-elected. The names of the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, Sir Tames fiunson and Mr. X. R. W. Thomas were also added.
