A PAGE IN HISTORY.
(Kecelve.l 1..10 p.m.l LOXDOX, June 7. A factor in Lord Derby's decision to sell Iloolle, the Lancashire manufacturing town, which came into the possession of the family during the Eighteenth Century, is that many leases arc for HDD years. It is a question whether the corporation is wise to invest ground rents which cannot increase in value for 100n years. Lord Derby a month ago sold practically all his property in south-east Lancashire, covering .">00(1 acres in Bury, Manchester, and Salford. to Mr. S. 11. Green. It is rumoured that the sale yielded £1.(100.000. The Bury estates have been in the possession of the Stanleys since tlie Battle of Bosworth, in 14.5.".. when Stanley forsook Richard and sided with Henry VII.. and was rewarded with the lands of tbe Lancashire families who sided with Richard.— (A. and X.Zr)
