FLOODS IN THE NORTH.
LARGE AREAS SUBMERGED. ARATAPU UNDER 'WATER. CONDITIONS IMPROVING TO-DAY. (B_r Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. Tlie Dargaville-Donnelly's Crossing train arrived at Dargaville on Saturday oil hours late owing to a flood at Ma.ropiu. By the time the return journey to Donnelly's Crossing w-gs begun late on Saturday afternoon the flood water had subsided, and the train arrived back in Dargaville on schedule time. The road at Kirikopuni yesterday was under 3ft of water, no traffic being able to get through between Whangarei and Dargaville. This morning the water dropped 2ft, and is still subsiding. Aratapu district was under water yesterday. There was a big flood in Tangowahine Valley on Saturday and Sunday, all farms being under water. Part of the Dargaville-Mangawhare main road was also under water yesterday, but the flood there has now subsided. Awakino Valley farms are flooded. So far no stock is reported missing. To-day the sun is shining. WASHOUT AT TAUMARERE. RAILWAY TRAFFIC DISORGANISED. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Saturday. Heavy rains recently caused a washout atTumerere, between Kawakawa and Opua, with consequent disruption of the railway service. Opua and Whangarei passengers have been transferred over the gap by motor cars over a hill. Trains departing from Whangarei have been taking two engines in order to get the necessary locomotive power. The water is fully three feet six inches over the line for a distance of seventy chains. SEVERE ELECTRICAL STORM. ROUGH SEAS ON COAST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. A severe electrical storm, accompanied by exceptionally heavy rain, was experienced yesterday afternoon and night. The seß in the bay was very rough. The weather to-day was still unsettled. GALE AT TAURANGA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURAKGA, this day. The easterly weather reported on Saturday increased to a heavy gale with rain on Sunday, the wind veering to north-east by north. There -""as a. torrential downpour during the night. Only minor washouts are reported.
