I*. Richmond expressed sympathy i with the relatives of the Late Air. dittos, who. in his practice as a solicitor, undoubtedly carried out- the highest traditions of the profession, lie was an unassuming man, and had tbe great reputation that his word was his bond, and in cases of any misunderstanding be always showed that nothing was more hateful to him than the mere suspicion of anything like sharp practice. ""After all," the Chief Justice commented, "what is termed the toga has not given way to the sword: and people may rest assured that their appeals may be settled by judicial tribunals and not by appeal to arms. A man led by tho highest ideals is a tremendous service not only to his profession, but also to the community in which he dwells. 1 hope the younger members of the profession will see that tlie great thing for a lawyer is so to act that when the time of his passing comes he is honoured by the community and by his fellow practitioners."
