LOCAL ELECTIONS.
THE OFFICIAL COUNT. RESULTS CONFIRMED.
The recount of tbe poll for the municipal and Harbour Board elections wns completed on Saturday by the returning officer, Mr. P. F. Xotley, and stalT. Excepting in regard to the alteration of some of the totals, which alter tbe places of certain successful candidates in the poll, tbe recount confirmed the results. A number of the ballot papers judged to be informal by the deputy returning officers were allowed in tbe official count where the intention of the voter was considered to be clear. Tbe corrected p ..-itions on the poll nre:—Mr. A. J. Ent rutin, fourth instead of ninth; Mr. ,T. A. C. Allum, seventh instead of fourth; Mr. G. Knight, sixth instead of seventh: Mr. J. Deinpsey, eighth instead of sixth; and Mr. J. \V. Hardley. ninth instead of eighth. Tho first seven in tlie list of unsuccessful candidates retain the positions given by tlie lirst count. There is no change in the positions of the nine candidates for the city scats on the Harbour Board.
MT. HO SKILL. BUILDING LOAN DEFEATED. In the Mount Roskill Road Board election on Saturday, tbe proposal to borrow £10.700 for the building of a board office and public hall was defeated by 48 votes. A three-fifths majority was required, but the voting was only 033 for to 408 against? which, fell 48 under tlie majority needed. However, the ratepayers re-elected all five of the sitting members who sought to retain their seats. There arc two new members. Tlie result of the poll was:— SUCCESSFUL. •P. Scarborough M 7 ♦IT.
