HARBOUR BOARD CONTEST.
NORTH SHORE SEAT. ADDRESS BY MR. A. E. GREEXSLADE. Addressing a public meeting in the Foresters' Hall, Takapuna. last evening in furtherance of his candidature for the Auckland Harbour Board for the four North Shore boroughs' seat, Mr. A. E. (irecnslade explained that at tomorrow's election the Takapuna borough would be joined for the first time with the boroughs of .Devonport, Birkenhead and Xorthcote for the election of one member on the Harbour Board. He considered this was the correct policy, owing to thi , community of interest of the four boroughs. The waterfront railway was now being laid, so it was quite useless at this stage to say the railway should not be there. It was necessary however, that there should be every provision for the safety and convenience of pedestrians. As the position now stood, the railway was to be given a trial for six months, and then the safeguards necessary were to be considered. He would support every measure calculated to promote the progress of the port, and to maintain Auckland as the premier port of the Dominion. He favoured the adoption of a policy having for its object the making of Auckland ultimately a free port.
