EASTERTIDE.
LAST OF THE HOLIDAYS. EXCURSIONS AND OUTINGS. For the last holidays of the year the weather does not look too promising, but the glass is high and the rain may hold off. Easter always winds up the outdoor life round the beaches, which has become such a prominent feature of Auckland, and the various holiday resorts are all well booked up for the occasion. Water excursions announced include the usual list of attractive places visited by the Northern Company's steamers, including Waiheke, Kawau, Waiwera, Manly, and Arkle's Bay, Brown's Bay, and Deep Creek. The s.s. Onewa is funning to Ostend and Palm Beach, the Edna White to Beachlands, the Olive Jean to Buckland's Beach, Valhalla and Wynona to Beach Haven, Masport and Koa to Brown's Bay and Arkle's Bay, Hunter's launches to upharbour wharves. The Devonport Ferry Company well run the usual excursions in the harbour. The launch Lancia will make a special trip from the hire launch steps to-morrow at 9.30 a.m., to Omiha Beach. She will leave on the return at 4.30 p.m.
As usual the railways are running cheap excursions, and the trains are being well patronised. In the sporting line the autumn race meeting at the Ellerslie course is the chief event. There are a number of outside sports gatherings, including the golf tournament at Middlemore, bowling, cricket, lawn tennis, etc.
