Hayden, j Mayor of Takapuna. and chairman of ; the* Waitemata Power Board, the Minisj tor of Public Works definitely stated j the objections to the amalgamation of j the Waitemata and Auckland power districts. In requesting the Minister to make public his objections to the amalgamation, Mr. Hayden also inquired into the attitude likely to be taken by the Department in the event of the ratepayers of Waitemata rejecting the loan proposals at the coming poll. i In reply the Minister stated his i Department did not favourably consider : the amalgamation proposal for the fol- • lowing reasons: — I 1. The Depaitinent/s business had been designed on the assumption that they had a definite number of customers and (certain diversity. If that diversity was I not obtained the rate to present eonj suniers, indicating the Auckland Power Board, would have to be adjusted. 2. The Department also considered j that the Auckland Power Board had a sufficiently large undertaking already, and that they would find difficulty in expediting the reticulating of the more northern portion of Waitemata. 3. The Waitemata Power Board could ,1k? quite efficiently and economically I administered on its own. If the loan j proposals were rejected they would have to be submitted in amended form, as there could be no consideration of amalgamation.
