OBITUARY.

THE LATE MR. S. W. LUXFORD. j The late Mr. S. W. Luxford. who died at Devonport quite unexpectedly yesterday, belonged to one of the oldest Wellington families. His parents arrived at Petone before the present site of Wellington was chosen, and his father was one of those who sailed along the shores of the harbour to make out the new site. Mr. Luxford's mind was a store-house of . knowledge concerning the early days lin Wellington, and he often spoke of the trials and hardships the early pioneers went through. He had served 28 years ■ in public life, and was looking forward : to completing 30 years, which would have ' brought his age up to the three score years. Ii At a meeting of the Takapuna , j Borough Coiincil last evening, on the I motion of the Mayor, it was decided " that a letter of condolence be sent to the widow of the late Mr. S. W. Luxford. It was also resolved that a suitable .- letter be forwarded to the Devonport I Borough Council, of which Mr. Luxford was a member.
