JEWISH FESTIVAL.
To-day is the first day of tlie festival of the Passover, which extends over eight days. Services were held in the Synagogue this morning, when Rev. S. A. Goldstein preached to a lurg-e congregation. After referring to tho importance of the exodus from Egypt in the life and religion of Israel he said that to-day Jewry celebrates the birthday of their*nation. He reviewed the great events of Jewish history, and the migrations of the Jewish peojile through the aces. In conclusion, he said that the opening of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem would appeal to the imagination of every Jew- It was evidence of the virility of character and spirit of an I eternal people.
