OLD SCHOOL SITE FOR SALE.
OFFERED TO NEWMARKET COUNCIL. FOR RECREATION PURPOSES. Tliat the Education Board, with the consent of the Minister of Education, is prepared to sell to the Newmarket Borough Council, for the sum of £4000, the balance of the old school site at Newmarket, after certain areas are retained, was the advice contained in a letter from the board, received by the Council at its meeting last evening. The areas to be retained are (a) the frontage to Newmarket Road with a depth of 1!)S links, and (b) a further area, having a frontage of 301 feet to Mortimer Pass, with a depth of 195 links, approximately. The board's offer to sell the land at £4000 is on the condition that the land will be permanently reserved for public recreation purposes. ; "Apparently they are not giving it away," remarked the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, who added that, after the proposed areas had been retained there would not be much left for recreation space. The matter was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee for a report.
