"RIGHT TURN."
TERRITORIAL TRAINING
ATTACKED. A BETTER WAY. *By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") STRATFORD, Friday. At a public meeting held last night to discuss ways and means of assisting the Stratford Football Club to finance the building of a gymnasium, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) spoke strongly about territorial training, saying the physical development of young people was much more important than the "right turn" kind of military instruction that was given under the territorial and which did not appeal to them. The military training necessary was. he said, given at school, and the money used for territorials could be better utilised were it used for the erection of gymnasia. He expressed the opinion that the gymnasium would help to do away with larrikinism, which was an unfortunate associate of territorial training. Mr. McMillan informed the Press this morning that he was not casting reflections on local territorials. He was speaking on the system generally. The remarks made have caused considerable discussion locally.
