QUESTION OF ARMAMENT. LONDON, March 18. The Secretary of State for War (Sir L. "Worthington-Evans) stated in the House of Commons yesterday that tiie question of defences required to protect the Singapore baee was still beinsj considered by the Committee of Imperial Defence. It was impossible to make a statement at present in regard to the cost or the date on which the work on the defences would be commenced. -Asked if the present defences were sufficient, or whether they would have to he increased, the Minister said thnt would depend upon the committee's report. Bri<radier-General H. C- Bro-mi (Conservative member for Berkshire) asked whether the Government would consider apnroachme New Ze->!a-nd and Australia with a view to obtaining , their heln.in thf matter.
