DEVONPORT COUNCIL.

Tho ordinary meeting of the Devonport Boroush Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. T. Lamont. presided, an<i there were present:—ilessrs. S. W. Luxford, E. Aldridse, A. V. Fraer, E. H. Little, S. Bond, A. Bnrtley, and J. Mays. j Tenders wore opened for the new flre ' ■brigade station and for the fillinc: of Stanley gay Park. For the flre Lrijrnde station Mr. E. Morris was the successful tenderer at £2W!). while for the park reclamation the prices ranged from :!/ to :yo per cubic yard; as this was largely in excess of tho money available, no tender was accepted. A ' tender for forming a track on Uangitoto at the Islington (Bay landing was accepted. , A recent proposal made to tho Minister ' of Justice with regard'to the establishment 1 of a prison camp at Itangltoto to carry out ! a scheme of road works on the island! was replied to in favourable terms by the ! Minister, who stated that the inspector of prisons would shortly visit Auckland, and would then eoiifor with the Council on the . matter. , The treasurer's report showed that the ' total rates levied in the borough for 1024-23 were £24,425 6/3, of which there had been collected to discount day (Ist October) £iaoi)2 S/;S. Another £10,436 7/4 was paid up to penalty day (4th March), since when £1.>3 11/11 hart been received, leaving outstanding, after allowing for rates written ■ off. a total of £1717 14/2. It was decided i that all rates outstanding to 31st March. ! 3024. should be placed with the borough ! solicitor for collection.
