The whole programme was got off without a single hitch, and there was not one protest on either day. The sports were the most successful yet held, and the competitors were well satisfied with the arrangements. AUSTRALIANS IN MANAWATU. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. The Australian athletes competed at Linton A.A. Club's annual sports to-day. A record crowd watched the local competitors try their pace against the best of Australia. The visitors ran in a plucky sportIng spirit, but werp handicapped out of the winning positions, but secured second in four events and third in two out r>f eight starts. If clocks are to be believed. N. Grehan (Brisbane) performed a great feat.by running 220 yards In 225; or 1 I-5a under the time in which the championship was won at Wanganni. Grehan started three times, including a heat, but on each occasion was beaten by McDonald. C. Burness (Sydney), the cyclist, added another spill to his chapter of accidents. At the finish of the mile he was forced by a skidding cyclist to run into another competitor. He appeared. later in the two miles and five miles, showing something ■at his trne form in rhe latter. Hyde, the crack Victorian miler. started twice (SSO yards and mile), securing a place each time. White was second in the 440 yards. MANGAWAI SPORTS.
