—. j MERCHANT SHIPPING RETURNS THE FEBRUARY FIGURES. In tlie report covering shipping, arrivals, departures, towages dockings, etc., at Auckland and Onehunga for tne month of February, presented by t'ae respective harbourmasters, Mr. H. H. Sergeant and Mr. R. H. Gibbons, at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board this afternoon an all round decrease is shown compared with the returns for February, 1924. At Auckland the arrivals consisted of two British warships, three Royal Mail steamers, twenty oversea steamers, eight intercolonial or Island traders, eighteen coastal steamers, three Government steamers, one oversea sailing vessel, one intercolonial sailing vessel, together with T.jO local coastal vessels, making a grand total of 793 vessels of 346,65-2 gross tons and 205,010 net tons. As compared with the corresponding period for last year the large merchant shipping shows a decrease of 3 vessels, 45.726 gross tons, and 31,473 net tons. The local coastal vessels' returns show a decrease of 50 vessels. 5535 gross tons and 2507 net tons. Part of this decrease can be attributed to the fact that there were 20 day* in February, 1924, as compared with 2S in 1925. At Onehunga the arrivals consisted of 27 vessels with an aggregate of 15,100 gross tons, and 6508 net tons.
